Operational management, Maintenance and Risk management (M3)

The M3 programme is a 3-year long Engineering Degree.

The skills of a M3 engineer

M3 engineers are generalist with a high degree of adaptability and responsiveness. They are able to position a company strategically and organize its development and its optimization. They guarantee the availability and performance of equipment. Being able to prevent risks and their consequences on people, the environment, and the company’s performance, they master the art of managerial activities.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams of technicians and engineers to innovate and add value to the company
  • Evaluate the safety of systems, diagnose their malfunctions, and implement corrective or preventive measures
  • Ability to draw up technical documents and produce specifications
  • Ability to design a project and to control all phases, either technical or economic

2 minors to choose from

The programme includes basic scientific disciplines, a core curriculum and contents specific to one of the following 2 minors starting from the 5th year (Master level).

Core curriculum skills

  • Product lifecycle management (PLM), Reliability & feedback (in English), Stochastic Petri nets
  • Operational management and QHSE, Asset management, 6 Sigma, Quality
  • Team management, Programme and project management

M3 Minor – Maintenance and Dependability (MSS)

M3 Minor – Supply chain management (MCL)

Internships

  • Assistant Engineer, minimum 12-week internship at the end of the 4th year
  • Engineer, 6-month internship during the programme’s final semester

Work-study

Possibility to carry out the final year in a work-study programme under a professional contract with a company.

International

  • A mobility period abroad is mandatory (for French students only): visit our International web page
  • Possibility of a double-degree at UQAC (Canada), École de Technologie Supérieure (ETS) in Montréal (Canada), ENI in Monastir (Tunisia)

Working fields

Production and/or maintenance engineer, operating safety engineer, industrial risk prevention or control engineer, operations and logistics manager, QHSE manager, project manager, consultant, research and development engineer, etc.
Career development can lead to the positions of Technical Director, Plant Manager, Industrial Production Manager, QHSE Manager, Maintenance Manager, Methods Manager, Scheduling Manager, Project Manager/Consultant in industrial organization.
M3 engineers are responsible for maintenance teams or production technicians and master managerial activities.

The M3 engineer works in small and large companies, or public organizations; he or she is also an entrepreneur.

M3 major students can enrol in a double-degree between Polytech Nancy and the following institutions.

  • Master in Complex System Engineering, with The Faculty of Science and Technology in Nancy
  • Master in Supply Chain Management, with the Business and Administration Institute (IAE) in Metz
